Why 8–14 Days Are the Best Time for Newborn Photos

In 8-14 days

Babies are often in Deep Sleep during this stage,

Deep Sleep is ideal for newborn photos, allowing us to photograph babies gently, safely, and comfortably.

During 8-14 days , babies fall into deep sleep easily — especially after feeding. While asleep, their bodies are naturally relaxed and gently curled, which makes it safer and easier to wrap and pose them comfortably.

For photos like these (BELOW 4 PHOTOS), babies need to stay completely still

which means they must be in deep sleep. Deep sleep allows babies to fully relax, stay curled, and remain comfortable, making it possible to photograph them safely, gently, and beautifully without forcing any poses.

After Two Weeks

A photoshoot is still possible, but it may take longer than usual. At this stage, babies are often more alert and may need extra time to settle into sleep. Occasionally, some babies may not feel comfortable with all traditional newborn poses.

In these cases, we choose gentler, baby-led poses — such as half-wrapped setups. Wrapping provides a sense of security, helps babies relax, and still allows us to capture their beautiful skin and natural details, without forcing any positions.

After Four Weeks

A newborn photoshoot is still possible, but it will look and feel different from a classic posed newborn session.

At this age, babies are usually much more alert, spend longer periods awake, and stretch their arms and legs more freely. Because of this, sessions often take longer, and not all traditional newborn poses will be comfortable or suitable.

For older newborns, we take a baby-led approach:

  • We focus on simple, natural poses

  • Use gentle, fully wrapped setups to provide a sense of security, helping babies feel calm and comfortable during the session.

  • Capture more awake moments, expressions, and details

  • Often include family and parent photos

We never push babies into poses. We always follow your baby’s comfort and cues, adjusting the session to suit their stage.

In short: while the posed newborn window is small, missing it doesn’t mean missing beautiful photos — it simply means adapting the style to what your baby is ready for.
